My Journey To Midwifery

I have sought to encourage pregnant women and mothers for as long as I can remember. Even in high school, pregnant acquaintances turned to me for compassionate help. As I had children of my own, the opportunities to provide encouragement and support grew.

Walking out of my first prenatal visit with a community midwife, CPM Peggy Franklin, I knew I needed to bring the Midwifery Model of Care to the Northern Neck of Virginia. I began studying to be a midwife in 2014, with my 7th baby in my lap, and attended my very first birth in 2015. During the course of my training, I attended over 80 births and assisted in the prenatal and postpartum care of over 200 families under the guidance of 12 different midwives in 7 practices across Virginia and Maryland.

In 2023, I graduated from the National Midwifery Institute, achieved certification through the North American Registry of Midwives as a Certified Professional Midwife, and became a Virginia Licensed Midwife, fulfilling my goal of bringing safe birth choices to the Northern Neck of Virginia.

For Such A Time As This
Thank You
Trainings and Certifications

The process of becoming a midwife is long and arduous. Nobody completes this challenge on their own.I have been blessed to receive instruction, encouragement, advice, and prayer from many amazing birth professionals. I am grateful for every professional with whom I have had the pleasure of attending births and the many instructors who have taken the time to teach me.

A special thanks to my own midwives, who sparked my love of midwifery care - Peggy Franklin, Kim Pekin, Tierney Dovan-O'brien, and Adrianna Ross.

Many thanks to my preceptors and mentors, official and unofficial, who sacrificed their time and energy to raise up a midwife - Marilee Pinkleton, Heidi Horner, Adrianna Ross, Elizabeth Davis, LeaAnna Miller, Amy Keillor, Jessica Baynes, Dev Honey, Lori Orme, Marinda Schindler, Leah Paul, Beverley Bouchard and Carol Gautschi.

Many thanks to a handful of medical professionals who provided exceptional care and believed in me during a hard time - Kristin Andrs, Todd Adams, and Mary Helen Hackney.

Special thanks go to my husband, Daniel Dunn, and my children, Ethan, Hope, Jacob, Amelia, Isaac, Miriam, Hazel, Penelope, and Louisa. Thank you for walking with me through everything and always being my biggest supporters and best helpers.

All glory, gratitude, honor, and praise to my LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ, who equipped where He called and provided abundantly more than I could ask or imagine.
